Our Programs
Martin Leese Lectures – Free and Open to the Public!
In 2006, Robert Knox of New Oxford offered to donate $10,000 to the Society toward a fund that would underwrite the costs of history lectures. Mr. Knox was a professor of history at Gettysburg College, a collector of area antiques and a good friend of C. Robert Martin, a founding member and past president of HAHS, and Robert Leese, a Life Member who also served as a board member.
When this donation was first offered, HAHS’s then-Vice President Ron Shireman contacted the York County Community Foundation, which was offering to match donations up to $12,500. Mr. Knox raised his donation to $12,500 and in 2007, a fund of $25,000 was established with the Foundation. Each year, the proceeds are forwarded to HAHS and used to fund the Martin Leese Lectures, sometimes called the Martin Leese History Talks.
There are four to six Lectures each year; most are held at the Warehime-Myers Mansion. Martin Leese Lectures are free and open to the public. Check the Calendar for upcoming history talks!
Special Events
The Society offers a variety of special events throughout the year such as the Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Tree Tours and Christmas Tea, plant or flower sales, seasonal exhibits or displays and more. Visit this page regularly for announcements of upcoming events and check the Calendar as well.
Travel Tours
HAHS offers motorcoach tours several times a year to places of historic and/or cultural interest. Most are one-day excursions with the occasional multi-day tour added to the schedule. Buses are climate controlled with many amenities to make your touring a comfortable experience. Our coach tours tend to sell out quickly, so when one is announced, we encourage you to buy your ticket before they’re all gone!
Lawn Concerts
Held on the grounds of the Warehime-Myers Mansion, lawn concerts are held on the first Wednesday of the months of June, July, August and September, weather permitting. Refreshments are available from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. with the concerts starting at 6:30 p.m. Concerts are free and open to the public.
