About Our Move
The Hanover Area Historical Society has relocated within the Guthrie Memorial Library, thanks to our community’s dedication to preserving Hanover’s rich history. Our team has been working tirelessly to prepare the Yelland Research Library and Archives for public access, and we eagerly invite you to join us in celebrating this momentous occasion at our grand opening event on September 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A generous donation from Terrence and Monna Hormel, who have supported both HAHS and Guthrie Memorial Library for many years, will help to ensure the community will have continued access to our research collections for years to come.
In recognition of their generosity, the research center where our collections are now located has been renamed the Hormel History and Research Center, formerly known as the Glenn Hormel Reading Room.
Together, We Are Bringing Hanover’s History to All
A Historical Community Collaboration
We are grateful to the Borough of Hanover for their vision of bringing greater access to Hanover’s history to everyone.
The Borough offered the Hanover Area Historical Society a lease that began in mid-May. With this move, we preserve our community’s heritage and advance the Hanover Area Historical Society’s mission, “To Preserve, Protect and Promote the Historical Story of the Hanover Area.”
Together, we are working to collaboratively preserve our history, enrich our community and ensure a vibrant future for all through knowledge.

What prompted the move? | Hanover Area Historical Society was approached by the Borough of Hanover to lease a portion of Guthrie Memorial Library. At its current location, the Hanover Area Historical Society’s collections have outgrown their current space and our other buildings are not suitable to accommodate our increasing needs. Since Guthrie Memorial Library has served as Hanover’s public library since 1911, we were thrilled to consider sharing space within this historic institution. |
